Steffon Codrington Obituary, Death: A tragic road accident early this morning claimed the life of a 23-year-old man from El Socorro, leaving the community in shock. Steffon Codrington, a resident of Sadoo Trace, El Socorro Extension, was involved in a fatal collision along the northbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway, close to the T&TEC Sub-Station, around 4:40 am.
The incident unfolded when Codrington, who was driving his vehicle with a front seat passenger, was struck from behind by an unidentified vehicle. The force of the impact caused Codrington to lose control of his car, sending him spiraling out of control. In a devastating twist, Codrington was ejected from the vehicle and was thrown onto the roadway, coming to a stop approximately 100 feet away from the crash site.
Sadly, Codrington was struck by another vehicle driven by a man from Belmont shortly after being ejected. The impact of this second collision proved fatal. Emergency response teams arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported. The passenger in Codrington’s vehicle, a resident of Lower Don Miguel Road, sustained injuries and was transported to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex for treatment by Emergency Health Services (EHS).
Upon arrival, District Medical Officer Dr. Sant visited the scene and pronounced Codrington dead. The body was subsequently removed by funeral home personnel Nicholas Julien and Joel Ramrattan of Belgroves Funeral Agency. Crime Scene Investigators, PC Arjoon and PC Frankbull, processed the scene to gather evidence and piece together the details of the fatal accident. The wrecked vehicle was removed by Balchan Wrecking Services and taken to the Chaguanas Police Station for further investigation.
The incident has shaken the residents of El Socorro, a tight-knit community that now mourns the loss of a young life. Friends and family of Codrington have taken to social media to express their sorrow and support for his loved ones. Those who knew him describe Steffon as a hardworking individual with a kind heart, and his untimely passing has left a deep void in their lives.
The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing. Officers from the Caroni Police Station, PC Bowen and WPC Rampsey, are assisting the Chaguanas Police in their inquiries. Authorities are working to identify the driver of the unidentified vehicle that first struck Codrington’s car, which remains a key part of the investigation.
As the investigation continues, questions remain about the circumstances surrounding the incident, particularly the role of the hit-and-run driver involved. Residents in the area have expressed concerns about road safety, urging local authorities to take stronger measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
