Marion police responded to reports of a shooting and found Julio suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. According to investigators, Julio had arranged to meet with another individual, 18-year-old Cordel Bice, for the purchase of vape cartridges. The encounter turned violent, and Julio was shot during the exchange.

Despite his injuries, Julio was able to give police a critical statement before he passed. “At the time, he told police that a white person named Cordel had shot him,” stated Marion Police Deputy Chief Mark Stefanatos. His brave and quick response played a vital role in the subsequent arrest of the suspect.

Witnesses reported seeing a white Pontiac fleeing the scene. That vehicle was later located near an apartment complex in the 500 block of East 3rd Street, which led authorities to apprehend Cordel Bice just hours after the fatal shooting. Bice is now in police custody facing charges in connection with the homicide.

“It’s just a sad situation,” said Deputy Chief Stefanatos. “A young man’s life, which hadn’t even gotten started, is now gone because of a ridiculous act that never had to happen.”

Julio’s death has left a significant impact on the Mississinewa High School community. In response, school officials have made counseling services available to students and staff coping with the emotional aftermath of the tragedy. “Our thoughts are with Julio’s family, friends, and everyone affected by this senseless act of violence,” the school shared in a statement.
